The session topics covered prevalence, progression and risk factors of myopia, mechanisms such as light exposure and visual pathways, optical and pharmacological methods of myopia control, genetics, clinical trial considerations, myopic eye shape and accommodation and binocularity.

Myopia control – science or luck?

What causes myopic progression? Studies have attempted to find causative factors related to genetic, environmental, and behavioral influences including parental myopia, time spent outdoors, and hours of near work (reading, computer, video games).1

Is your myopia strategy just OK?

For me, I would need more information before jumping in one strategy versus another, based only on the myopia progression and the script. Here is my thinking process to define a strategy for myopia control.

SMART study – orthokeratology slows progression of myopia

The recently published outcome from this multi-site USA based study is in agreement with previous studies comparing effect of orthokeratology in slowing progression of myopia in children compared to disposable soft contact lenses.

Two meta-analysis papers were published in the first half of 2015, both from Chinese research groups. Meta-analysis requires specifying a search criteria which is then followed over a set period of time to include all papers and reports that are caught by the search criteria terms.
